The Employment Standards Code and Regulation establishes minimum standards that apply to employees and employers under provincial jurisdiction. The code is administered by Government of Alberta Human Services. In Alberta, about 90% of companies are governed by that code. However, certain companies such as banks and interprovincial trucking companies for example, are under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code. Any employer who hires employees must know and comply with the applicable labour laws.
